Sale complete of all condos at ‘Harrison House’
NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND (February 23, 2022) – Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty announced the sale of the last of eight condominiums in an extraordinary conversion completed by Blue Dog Capital Partners at 50 School Street on Historic Hill in Newport. The sales, brokered by Michelle Kirby and Kate Kirby Greenman, ranged from $1,210,000 to $2,650,000 for the penthouse featuring two private decks and stunning harbor and bridge views.
The newly renovated “Harrison House” is steeped in colonial history. Originally conceived as a lodge for Freemasons, it was designed in the late 1700s by Peter Harrison, known as “America’s first architect" and a designer of such notable buildings as the Redwood Library, the first lending library in America, and the Touro Synagogue, the first synagogue in the country. The impressive building on School Street, with some modifications to the original design, was finally built in 1803.
Unique luxury condominium units were created with extraordinarily high ceilings, giant windows, and inviting spaces. A lower-level parking garage with elevator access and a rooftop deck complement the units’ high-end amenities. The rooftop deck has its historic tale: blown off in the hurricane of 1938, the developer restored the observation platform to its former crenelated glory. Six of the Harrison House units sold in the past year contribute to the total number of 17 condominiums sold in Newport for over a million, with the penthouse representing the second-highest sale of a condominium.
