Noteworthy Sale: Iconic 'Land's End'

NEWPORT, RI (April 9, 2020) – Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty is pleased to announce the sale of 'Land's End,' located at 42 Ledge Road in Newport, Rhode Island. The iconic property sold for $8.6 million. The listing was represented by Kendra Toppa of Lila Delman Real Estate and Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty sales associate Kara Malkovich represented the buyers.

'Land's End' is an oceanfront estate on 5.6 acres on the southeastern point of Aquidneck Island. Designed by John Sturgis during Newport's Gilded Age, it is a classic example of understated elegance with modern upgrades. The eight-bedroom main residence is complimented by a three-bedroom carriage house, both with spectacular views. The property, once owned by the novelist Edith Wharton, was part of the estate of socialite Marion "Oatsie" Charles.

The sale of this iconic estate represents the third highest sale of a property in Rhode Island so far this year and the 15th highest sale in Newport historically.  Realtor Kara Malkovich noted, “This is a landmark sale for Newport and the State of Rhode Island and what really warms my heart are the myriad of personal relationships that are involved in this sale, from long-time family friends of my parents and the sellers; to my own Newport childhood school buddy Kendra Connerton-Toppa who represented the sellers with Lila Delman…to new friends (like the buyers whom I represented through Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty). They are outstanding additions to the City whom have a long history with Newport.  Newport has had a long-storied past and it's gratifying to know that Newport has a wonderful future ahead. I'm grateful & honored to be part of continuing a legacy estate, such as Land's End."
